The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle of WWII it involved Germany and its allies fighting the Soviet Union. It is one of the most bloodiest battles in the history of any war. This battle was the turning point of WWII. On August 23, 1942. The Soviets had a warning that the Germans were coming to Stalingrad so they shipped out the grain, cattle, and railway cars across the Volga (River). The aim of the Germans was too seize the territory Don (River) and Volga. The German Air Force had rendered the Volga a vital source that is used too transfer supplies into the city. The German Air Force fun 32 Soviet ships and damaged 9 Soviet ships between July 25 and July 31. The actually battle started by the Germans Air Force they did the most powerful damage in the world at that time in one single air formation. The city was mostly turned into rubble from the explosions. The use of sniper battles was really used a lot during this battle. When the Germans gained control of the territory the Soviet Union had trapped the Germans inside the city. The commander of the Germany army that was trapped begged Hitler for permission to withdraw and regroup but Hitler refused to quit after coming this far. Hitler promised to give the people in the city a supply drop everyday but not all the planes made it and the Soviet's defended the city to make sure no supplies got inside. After a while the Germans were reduced to having to eat their own animals and they were low on ammunition. Then one of Hitler's commanders went against Hitler's orders and surrendered he then later claimed that he did not surrender because he didn't wanna be shamed for what he did. Then the Battle of Stalingrad ended on February 2, 1943.
